Panties, Panties Everywhere

I don't get out much. This is a fact I own up to freely. After all, I work in the church and I have two young kids... neither of these lend themselves to a lot of recreational socialization. So when I do get out, it is a big deal. No, I don't mean when we get out to see Curious George or Horton Hears a Who (although, I am looking forward to seeing Horton), I am talking about the "grown-up" version of getting out. Dinner with Eric, a non-animated movie, or even a concert.

This week, I was afforded the opportunity to go out and live an adult life for a night. Eric kept the girls -- picking them up after school and getting them back to school the next day. Eric did all this so I could accept a friend's invitation to a concert. I had been looking forward to this since November when the tickets were bought. Stephanie and I were going out, without our kids, for an evening of fun and music at a Tom Jones concert. Yes. Tom Jones. THE Tom Jones. Tom Jones who released his first greatest hits album the year I was born. When Stephanie invited me, I jumped at this chance to do something completely silly, all the while leaving Eric to wonder if he really knew who I was.

I have to say, the concert was a hoot. Watching the wide variety of people was a thrill. Ladies wrapped in boas.... others wearing their kitty cat ears. Grandchildren in their 20's sitting alongside their grandparents... and yes... 65 year old women twirling their thong-panties and throwing them on stage. Again, I don't get out much. I had no real idea that Tom Jones was the kind of guy ladies throw their panties at. But they did. And not just one or two pair. We are talking about lots of panties -- some making it the stage, some getting lots in the security-abyss between the audience and the stage. Still -- seemingly normal, mature women, were swooning and throwing panties at Tom Jones -- something I will never understand.

Don't get me wrong. I had a great time! I laughed, I sang, I gasped at the wonder that is Tom Jones and his fans. It was a fantastic night out and one that has refueled the Momma-tank for quite a while (we must do this again, Stephanie!). Eric is still enjoying the opportunity to poke fun at me that I went to this concert. But you know, how often do you get to go out and do something that is just silly and random -- just for the sake of fun? Life is often too grown-up, we need to take time out to fill up our fun-tanks until the next time rolls around.

I may not get out much, but when I do, I make sure it is worth it!

He was the sex symbol at one point. I am sure the grandmas in the audience were reliving their youth for sure. What a fun night you had!!! whoo hoo!!
