Okay, so if I had the first ding-dang clue how Molly uploaded the nifty "what color will the baby's hair be" poll, I would create one myself. But I don't, so I won't. But that doesn't mean I won't have a little fun at my beloved wife's expense...!
Poll question: Is my wife going to hell?
Now, before you all get all up in arms, let me say there's no one I know more faith-filled than my wife. If I make it to heaven, I fear they'll give me a Burger King crown; Molly's crown undoubtedly be dazzlingly bejeweled. Nevertheless, I wouldn't stand too close to Molly, just in case the lightning zaps ya, too.
Earlier this week, Molly and Josie struck a deal: Josie makes her bed each morning and earns a quarter for the piggy bank. Can I just tell you how Josie jumped on that deal?! (And I have to say, Josie makes a pretty decent bed by most any standard, particularly given her age ... and the fact that she has no real role model from which to emulate bed making -- I last made my bed, willingly, when Reagan was president.)
It occurred to me that a buck-.75 a week is a lot of coin for a 5-year-old with only one chore on her to-do list. That's three carousel rides every two weeks, and this girl knows that.
I guess Molly agreed with me, because just this morning Molly offered Josie a restructured deal: make your bed every morning for a week, and after seven days Josie will get a whole dollar. And Josie jumped at the deal, unknowingly cheating herself out of 75 cents.
So again I ask: Is my wife going to hell? Or is this just skillful parenting?
If the dear blog readers think the deal is fair, then I'll recant my testimony. And maybe offer Josie an extra buck a week to make my bed.

Eric, Eric, Eric. I can see it now, Josie will declare you the evil one (3 against 1, you will always loose, but you probably already know that) when she finds out that she's been cheated out of 75 cents a week for months or years on end. Just pray, not that Molly will go to hell, but that you my friend will be able to afford the back pay plus compound interest, and possibly court fees. Also, hope that Norah doesn't get in on the action declaring that she should have begun getting the $$ when Josie did.
Oh come on! Molly offered a change order to the contract and Josie accepted. Tough luck for the redhead. Maybe she was having a grace-filled moment; who are we to question her motivation for accepting the amended contract?
It does demonstrate why we don't allow five-year-olds to enter binding contracts - they have the attention span of a gnat.
Dear ML-
HELL-o! I can see Molly and Josie as negotiators for GM and the autoworkers respectively. Labor relations in the 21st century! You need to find a way to make this work for you! You've got 20 years before the kids leave home and you achieve sexual parity!
I remember getting an extra $2 bucks a week in allowance if I kept my room clean (that was bed made and clothes put away). But I was, oh, maybe 10. So, a quarter a day to make the bed, or a dollar a week? I'm astounded at how much a tooth is worth these days, but aren't kids supposed to be cheap labor?
