Fall Fun

The past few weeks have been busy ones... long weeks full of church meetings, short weekends with too much going on. Yet somehow, in the midst of the chaotic school schedules and work schedules, we made sure to set aside some time for some family fun!

Last weekend was Central Methodist's Homecoming, which means the town was a flurry of activity. We spent the morning out on the square with many others as we sat back and enjoyed the Homecoming Parade. You know, I couldn't tell you who we played that day... or even if we won or not... but I can tell you we had a pretty awesome parade! Eric and I were hoping for a laid back time while Josie enjoyed the parade with friends and Norah stayed close to us. Boy were we wrong! Norah wanted to be in the middle of EVERYTHING.... literally. We were continuously pulling her out from the middle of the street so that the parade wouldn't run her over!

Other parade highlights included the retrieval of candy tossed from floats, 4 marching bands (CMU, the high school, and two visiting high schools), college floats with a "superheroes" theme, and the political/election floats. Being a small town, the parade does two loops through town, usually with most floats being out of candy to be tossed to the children by the end of the first round.

After the parade, Norah got to enjoy her first walk through crispy fall leaves. She LOVED it.

This weekend, we took the girls north of town to buy pumpkins. I am one of those people who refuses to buy pumpkins from the grocery store, so we went out in search of a local pumpkin patch. Turns out, it was a rough year for pumpkins with all the rain. The place we went to planted 16 acres of pumpkins but was only able to harvest 6 of those acres. Still, even with fewer pumpkins, the girls were able to find their "perfect" picks for the season.

It was a gorgeous fall day, so after our pumpkin picking, we went to a local park to run around for a while. Our hope was that all the fresh air would help them nap this afternoon... we weren't that lucky. Oh well. It truly was a wonderful day which when coupled with the events from last weekend have made for some fabulous fall fun.
