There is something wonderful to be said about old friends. Yes, I realize that is an obvious statement. But old friends, those friends with whom you can pick up as though you never left off, those friends are the best.
We had the joy of having an old friend of mine from high school up to visit. Actually, I think we can trace our relationship to one another further back than that, if you count girl scout camps, baby sitting classes, and the like... but in high school we were great friends. And I am thrilled to say, I still consider us great friends. We have gotten on with our lives, gotten married, started families, we live in different parts of the mid-west, but we remain close. All I can say is, thank goodness for email!! But even with email, we all know how busy we can get and that email messages are never as often as we would like. But this is where that whole "old friends are the best" part comes in.... there is a strong enough foundation already in place and a sincere caring for one another that we don't have to waste time rebuilding our connection... whether weeks or months between emails and no matter how many months or years between visits, we are able to pick up and start building right on top of that friendship foundation that is already in place. What a true joy and blessing!

Anyway... Lenae and her daughter Neva drove through to visit after visiting family in Kansas. We missed having her hubby, Kevin, with us, but it was a fun visit none-the-less. Josie and Neva warmed up to each other fairly quickly and had a good evening in the sandbox, coloring, and playing in Josie's room. Neva is preparing to be a big-sister in September, so she also enjoyed playing with Norah, giving Norah love, and keeping tabs on where "baby Norah" was most the evening.

Lenae, being ever-so-crafty, knitted an awesome teddy-bear for Norah. When I offered it to Norah today, she warmed right up to it, rubbed her face all over it, tasted an ear, and declared it hers! When she decided to roll over for some tummy time, she took Harry the Bear with her for further observation...

At the end of the day I am simply reminded that even in this itinerant life that we live, taking the time to make new friends, and to enjoy the old friends, is time more than well spent.
