Yesterday was a milestone day... one of those milestone days that lead to other milestone days... Josie had her kindergarten screening for school in the fall. That's right folks, Josie starts KINDERGARTEN this fall... can it really be so?? Anyway... Josie had a ball at screening. She got to meet all the kindergarten teachers (there are 3) and the school nurse. She moved from station to station where she was screened on hearing/vision, language, concepts, and motor skills. She passed it all with flying colors... except for scissors. She failed scissors. Seems to run in the family since I failed scissors at her age as well. But truly, this was not unexpected as we, her well intentioned parents, have NEVER put a pair of scissors into her hands. We just never thought it was important and we never wanted to experience things being cut that were meant to remain UNcut (such as her hair). But alas... we must now give in and teach her the secret to scissors. Sigh.
With screening going so well, we learned that Josie is eligible for summer school -- a 5 week session that has classwork in the morning and activities in the afternoon. We will likely take advantage of this offering so as to offer Josie a "preview" as to what kindergarten will be like. She always seems to thrive if she knows and understands what to expect -- hopefully this will help her know a little more what school will be like this fall. If only there was a class for parents to help them cope with the big milestone that kindergarten is.
Kindergarten. Where did the time go?!
